Spicebush has brilliant yellow flowers and make a good replacement for forsythia. Its leaves and branches are aromatic and the berries can be eaten and used in cooking. Spicebush is the host plant for the Spicebush Swallowtail and the caterpillars are adorable. This shrub grows best in moist woods.
A male and female spicebush are necessary for berries. The shrubs I sell are too young to be sexed. Plant three for the best chances to get both male and female.
