The red flowers of this plant are striking and beautiful. This is another plant that lays low the first year to grow roots. It will just be a small rosette the first year. The second year, however, it will send up shoots with brilliant red flowers that attract long-tongued bees and hummingbirds. It is a short lived perennial, so plants only last 2 or 3 years. It will, however, reseed and make new plants.
