The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center calls little bluestem "one of the East's most important native prairie grasses". This grass can be used as in a formal garden as an ornamental grass or mixed in with other plants for an informal meadow look. It can get up to 7 feet tall but doesn't usually get that big in the garden. It is drought tolerant and should do well in a roadside garden or hellstrip.
